A9118 Unrestricted

Active Constituents:
Imidacloprid 100g/L and moxidectin 10g/L solution for topical application onto cats. Available in packs containing 3 and 6 pipettes of 0.4 and 0.8mL dose sizes.

Imidacloprid exerts its effect by binding to post synaptic nicotinic receptors, blocking acetylcholine. Because imidacloprid is not broken down by acetylcholine esterase, its effects are long lasting and result in the death of the insect. Moxidectin interacts with GABA- and glutamate-gated chloride channels, causing inflow of chloride ions at post synaptic junctions. This causes flaccid paralysis and death of the parasite. Imidacloprid spreads over the surface of the skin; it works by contact and is non-systemic. Moxidectin is absorbed and acts systemically. Imidacloprid and moxidectin do not interact and therefore act on their target parasites independently.

Treatment and prevention of fleas (Ctenocephalides spp). It also kills larval flea stages in the environment, and can be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea allergy dermatitis (FAD). Advocate Stops fleas from feeding in 3-5 minutes and has been shown experimentally to kill adult and larval fleas within 20 minutes.
It controls roundworms (Toxocara cati and Toxascaris leonina) including larval (L4) and immature adult stages, and hookworms (Uncinaria stenocephala), including larval (L4) and immature stages (not clinically significant in New Zealand). It can also be used for the treatment and control of ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) and lungworm (Aelurostrongylus abstrusus).
It is recommended that all cats in the same environment should be protected by Advocate or Advantage for cats, and all dogs with Advocate or Advantage for dogs. Advocate may be used as the only product for flea control as it breaks the life cycle and kills fleas emerging from the environment before they successfully re-infest the cat.
For the elimination of ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), Advocate should be applied once and is highly efficacious as a single dose. Cats not responding to the initial treatment may respond to a second monthly treatment, however this has not been established for Advocate. Monthly application of Advocate will treat any subsequent ear mite infestation. To maximise efficacy gentle cleaning of the ear canal is recommended.
For the treatment and control of lungworm (Aelurostrongylus abstrusus), Advocate is highly efficacious as a single dose. Monthly application of Advocate will control any subsequent lungworm infections.
For use in cats and kittens from 9 weeks of age. One application lasts 4 weeks.

Use with caution in sick, debilitated or underweight animals.

Multiple-dose safety studies in kittens and adult cats produced no adverse effects. No primary embryo-toxic, teratogenic or reproductive toxic effects have been observed with imidacloprid or moxidectin in laboratory species. Evidence suggests that no adverse effects are to be expected in pregnant and lactating cats. However, the safety of Advocate has not been established during pregnancy and lactation.
